A total of 450 participants showed up for the inaugural Shaunae Miller-Uibo Bay Street Mile this past Saturday.
Miller-Uibo, who was on hand along with her husband Maicel Uibo and other Bahamian elite athletes such as Steven Gardiner, Jeffery Gibson, Ramon Miller and Stephen Newbold, said that she was very pleased with the running of the event. “I was excited to help out the coaches association in pulling off this event,” she said.
“I got to run with the little kids, and it was a thrill to be there with them and to encourage them to push forward. Overall, I’m very happy with the success of it, and we’ll see how things go for years to come. It was a great experience for myself and the others who came along for it. I’m looking forward to the future of this event, and hopefully it gets bigger and bigger as time goes by.”
The race, which is dubbed ‘The fastest road race in The Bahamas’, was staged by the Bahamas Association of Athletic Coaches (BAAC) and sponsored by Miller-Uibo.
It started from the Straw Market on Bay Street and ended at the Bahamas Football Association’s (BFA) National Beach Soccer Stadium at the foot of the Sidney Poitier Bridge. Shown are scenes from the event.
